Carved Chest

Last weekend I joined a workshop from Ann High

at Annelies place, to make a beautifull

14th century chest with a carved tilting scene.

This is the one I made:

Saturday early in the morning:

This is my piece of wood I used to practise making

lines, learn how to use tools in the right way;

I had no experience at all and it doesn't look

very promising ...

I still cannot believe she made me carve the

tilting scene as it is.

We finished the carved scene on Sunday afternoon.

I did like the carving part the most; in a way it is relaxing

and it was hard to stop. But in the afternoon we had to get

on with the last part of the workhop;

finish the chest, take it home ... and play!

Shoes and Socks!!

I bet everybody has favourite shoes which are hard to replace because they are so comfortable. But then there is the time you have to go for new ones.

I like shoes very much and it is hard for me to past a shoestore without going inside. So no problem to buy new ones!

Last saturday I joined (and enjoyed!!) a class by Wim van Soest at Annelies' place, to make miniature leather shoes. I also like to knit socks; in mini as wel as in real life so I am ready for winter!!

The pattern to knit these socks is desinged by Annelies.

Packing

Last may I joined another workshop from Wim van Soest and learned how to make this stunning suitcase from real leather.

Although it was a warm day, it was fun to do and I had a great time. But it was also fun to pack the suitcase and daydream ... in fact ... George, an 10 year old boy is packing it right now!! He is leaving this afternoon to go to visit his granddad for the weekend. They planned a visit at the observatory tomorrow and George is looking forward to it. But this evening they will have fun being busy with something they both like more than anything else: comics!!

New shoes!

Showing you my new shoes! Handmade by me, from real leather, with lots of help from Wim van Soest who designed these lovely boot-shoes. They even have a mark inside and it was great learning how make them.

It was hard to resist the brightfull colours of leather he brought ... and because summer is coming soon, I thought I'd better have more than one pair ...

Succeeded!

I was about twelve years old when I learned how to chrochet. I took it very seriously and started to make a blanket ... I used two colours; aqua and dark blue. My mother was a smart women; she bought me a new ball yarn, after I used one ... she never had to buy more than four. So entering the miniature world I did see a lot of chrocheted miniatures. I thought it would be easy to start again but it didn't work out that way. I had forgotten how do do it!! Because I had to stay much inside this week with our little dog who is recovering from a nasty infection, I thought I try again ... and today ... I did it!

All those things I would like to make; what shall I choose?

Revolving Bookcase

Another passion of mine is books! The color of its cover, the way the title is written, the smel of the paper, the promiss what's inside ... no need to tell you I can never walk by a bookstore.
I still have my first book that took me to another world; "Danny, the champion of the world" written by Roald Dahl. I just love to read.

So when I saw the plan of this piece of furniture I had to make it! I made the books from real old books; I went to the second hand shop and took the ones with a nice cover. While making them I was often suprised by the second page of a book; it's a blanc page but often beautiful aged.

Of course this special miniature gets a spot in my dutch canal house.

Working with leather

This year I registered for several workshops by Wim v. Soest. He is an expert in making leather miniatures. The first workshop I learned how to make these bags. The black one, the shopping bag, is my favourite. And if you look real close, you'll see the brown one has a zipper ...

I am looking forward to the next workshop in two weeks; making shoes!!

The project I am currently working on is a Greenery. In real life I love to study flowers and plants so making them in miniature is lots of fun for me! The headerphoto of this blog shows my latest creation, irisses, and I can asure you, it won't be the last one.

I also have a dutch canal house. Because at the end of next summer we are moving to a beautifull new house, I decided it's better to wait with the decoration. But there is already some furniture and meanwhile I also collected some great miniatures.
